Safety
- If you’re unsure, STOP! Ask for assistance before attempting to perform a task on hand.
- No one but the active lift user may operate lift controls.
- Lift must be inspected prior to use.
- The vehicle must be on locks prior to performing any work.
- You must use the correct lift pads and lift points to raise the vehicle. If you are unsure, Refer to the lift guide book or ASK!!!
- Make sure the lift is clear from all obstructions prior to lowering the vehicle.
- Do not attempt to lift beyond the GVWR or dual rear wheeled trucks or anything that cannot fit through the shop door or severely rusted frame/pinchwelds.
- No one should be in the vehicle while it's being lifted, doing so requires RMs approval. The user assumes all responsibility and liability for any injuries and/or damages.
- Don’t operate the lift in an unsafe manner, the cameras are watching.
- Smoking and drinking adult beverages is FORBIDDEN in the auto shop, especially while operating the lift. Anyone found under the influence or violating this rule while using the lift will have their lift access immediately revoked.
Emergency?
- Any mechanical emergencies: contact the Auto RMs for further instructions. If there is no response within 15 minutes, call Alex Perez, phone number is listed on slack.
- If a vehicle must be left overnight, you must contact the Auto RMs and/or the board directly through email. Await further instructions.
Tools
- Tools must be returned to the original location on the wall
NO EXCEPTIONS!
- Table and cart must be free and clear upon completion of the lift reservation. They must be parked on their marked location.
- Please clean the tools prior to returning. If there's an update on the scanners, feel free to update it for us.
- Report any missing, broken or damaged tools to the Auto RMs. The sooner the report, the sooner the replacement.
- Place the out of service tool in a designated bin, located in the trailer.
- DO NOT use chrome sockets/ extensions as impact sockets. It will shatter.
- DO NOT take home any tools, special tools, or scanners for any reason. Tools must remain on property/ in the shop.
- The cameras are watching, the member may be contacted in the event of a missing tool report.
- NO tool donations allowed without the inspection and approval by the Auto RMs. Any abandoned or unapproved donated tool left behind will be removed within 24 hours.
- DO NOT mix purple wall tools with the auto shop tools under ANY circumstances.
- Special tools are located in the trailer. The trailer combo lock is 3808.

Disposal/ General
- We operate on a take in/take out basis. Leave no trace.
- Do not leave behind Any Metallic auto parts in the trash bins, dumpster, oil collection bin or anywhere in Makeit Labs.
- We do accept general trash, such as paper/fabric filters, non dripping pigmats, non dripping wood shavings.
- If there is a spill, you can use pigmats or use woodshavings.
- If the Pigmat or woodshavings are dripping, use more. It cannot be safely thrown away if it drips.
- We DO NOT accept used brake fluid and new/used antifreeze and its containers, scrap metal, used oil filter, and hazardous materials.
- DO NOT abandon forbidden waste or automotive hazardous material within the shop or anywhere in the property. Cameras are watching.
- Do not contaminate the oil collection bin with the following:
Brake clean, solvents, coolant/antifreeze, cooking oil, or fuel/ fuel mixed oil.
- Report to the Auto RMs if the Lift and/or the Auto area is left a mess, disarray, or in an unacceptable/unsafe condition.
- Auto fluid donation is acceptable; except gallon jugs, 5qt bottles, antifreeze. You must tag it via storage tags by the laser or else it's considered abandoned waste. Fluids will be removed after 3 months upon tagging. Donated fluids go on the red cart.
- Lost and Found: If you find or lose a tool, check/place the tool in the second tier of the red cart. Tools that are not claimed will be found on the free table.
- Failure to abide any of these simple rules may result in temporary lift access suspension without notice. Further offenses will result in revocation to the lift access and an appeal can be made at the board meeting.
- ALL lift users must be on slack and the #resource-auto-shop channel. If you leave the auto channel, your lift access will be suspended until you rejoin. All updates will be posted on the channel and policies will be updated on the wiki.
