Q: Why didn't it print!

A: Complexity leads to failure, Keep It Simple for Success

Things that go wrong, and how to avoid them:

1) Airprint / head jam - There are several ways the filament will jam and the result is an "Airprint"

spool tension

Low quality filament that is not 1.75mm+/-.02mm, has objects that are larger then 0.4mm, or has other materials that melt at irregular rates will cause the head to jam.

Filament pre-warmed causes the filament to stretch and not feed correctly into the head.

2) Adhesion issues happen when the first layer doesn't stick to the build plate.

Keep the plate oil free!

Calibration is critical

Plate warp...work around it if you can... Otherwise I need to fix / replace it.

BuildTak is much superior to bluetape etc.

Too cold.... Below 65F in the build chamber or a cold plate will cause the print to lift as the plastic shrinks.

3) Delamination is caused by to low of a temperature or to high of a head speed, lack of temperature control and / or low quality materials. This may be a balancing act with issues 4 and 5.

4) Fuzz threads... head temp is to high for the material.

5) Droop... head temp that was to high for the material and spanned a bridge to far.

6) Bad slice can lead to delamination, low quality texture, weak print structure, loops, unsupported ledges, etc. Check the preview before printing.

Fixes:

1) depending on how bad the head is jammed it requires a easy, fast or detailed head rebuild.

a) easy: unload the filament and use the purge 1.75mm rod to clean out the head

c) detailed: complete head tear down, replace borked parts.

2) depending on the cause it comes down to either cleaning, calibration or wear

a) cleaning: wipe the surface with IPA on paper towel, wait for it to dry

b) do the bed leveling process in the utility menu

c) replace the buildtak

3 and 4) the only fix for this is using the right setting for the filament used. So either use known filament, or experiment with settings on a test print.

5 and 6) These are mostly design or software issues.
